Born in 1965, I am a
At first I chose abstract painting, based on gesture and
improvisation. I tried to find harmony of opposites,
combining movement and flat areas, transparency and
opacity, raw energy and sophistication.
Then I progressively got back to a figurative approach.
Photography is the starting point of this work.
According to me, it is the unwavering mark of the real.
Then my role as a painter is to mix it with my own
trace, exploring different techniques. In my paintings
and drawings I use photo as a model, in a process
similar to photorealism. In my mixed media works, I
start with a digital picture, which I transform by using
different media (acrylic, varnish, collage), trying to
turn the virtual image into an organic work.
My figurative paintings are characterized by the nearly
complete absence of human presence, and also by an
almost permanent move through the natural or urban
landscape. Like a ghost, the human being vanishes behind
the landscape. It is a melancholic witness of modernity,
passing through, trying to escape its own life and time.
